AZAZ, Syria

The PYD/PKK terrorist group has initiated an attack on northern Syria’s al-Bab district to unite two districts that it controls to the east and west, according to a local source.

The source, who spoke on condition of anonymity due to security concerns, told Anadolu Agency that the terrorist group has raised tension in the al-Bab district.

When Free Syrian Army (FSA) fighters neared the al-Bab district with Turkish Armed Forces support as part of Operation Euphrates Shield, the PYD/PKK's plan of uniting the districts of Afrin (west of al-Bab) and Manbij (east of al-Bab), as well as its territories east of the Euphrates River, got harder.

The terrorist group Tuesday evening attacked FSA fighters in the village of Tal Malid in the Mare district, northwest of al-Bab. The attack claimed two FSA fighters' lives.

The PYD/PKK also captured several villages which were under the control of the terrorist group Daesh.

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan reiterated Tuesday that one of Operation Euphrates Shield's aims is the FSA retaking al-Bab from Daesh terrorists.

The PYD/PKK, which currently also controls the Afrin and Kobane districts, is working to expand its control by taking control of the area in northern Syria from Jarabulus to Azaz line, near the Turkish border, as well.
