Lord Bhikhu Parekh to be the chief guest in Nirma University convocation

:Lord Bhikhu Parekh, the political theorist and labour member of the House of Lords which is the second chamber of UK parliament, will attend the 22nd convocation of Ahmedabad-based Nirma University which is scheduled on October 21.

AHMEDABAD :Lord Bhikhu Parekh, the political theorist and labour member of the House of Lords which is the second chamber of UK parliament, will attend the 22nd convocation of Ahmedabad- based Nirma University which is scheduled on October 21.
“Nirma University will witness its 22nd annual convocation ceremony on Octobe 21 wherein 1797 students will be convocated. Lord Professor Bhikhu Parekh, Emeritus Professor of Political Philosophy, University of West minster and Emeritus Professor, University of Hull will be the Chief Guest for the event.
On this occasion, Lord Professor Bhikhu Parekh, will deliver the Convocation address,” said a statement of the university.
Around 55 students of Institute of Science will get M.Sc. degree in this convocation which will be held at the Nirma University campus located at Gota area on SG highway in Ahmedabad.
During the Convocation, the degrees shall be conferred to the students by Dr Karsan Patel, the president of the University.Parekh, the former vice chancellor of Maharaj Sayajirao (MS) university of Vadodara, has been taking a keen interest in education and its reforms. It is apparent with the fact that he had urged Gujarat Governor O P Kohli not to give consent to the State Higher Education Council Bill 2016 in its present form, as it will give "sweeping powers to the state government and curtail the authority of vice-chancellors."
