Gloucester have completed the signing of former Australian international prop Salesi Ma’afu after he was released by the Cardiff Blues.

Ma'afu joined the Blues in 2015 after leaving Toulon by mutual consent following a conviction for assault.

Prior to his stint in Toulon, Ma'afu spent two seasons with Northampton, where he helped the Saints win the Premiership and the European Rugby Challenge Cup.

The 33-year-old has been capped 14 times by his country and was a member of the Wallabies squad for the Rugby World Cup in 2011.

Renowned for his powerful work in the set piece, Ma'afu now moves to Kingsholm Stadium with immediate effect and should provide some real scrummaging power and strength in depth up front for the Cherry and Whites.

Ma'afu has trained with his new team-mates this week and will be available for selection for this weekend's European Rugby Challenge Cup fixture at home to Benetton Treviso on Saturday.
