Tariq Hamid Karra, Srinagar PDP MP resigns from Lok Sabha, Speaker Sumitra Mahajan accepts resignation

New Delhi, October 19: In a shocking and unexpected development, a Member of Parliament who  belonged to the People’s Democratic Party has resigned from his office. The MP, Tariq Hamid Karra, represented the people of Srinagar in the Lok Sabha. Speaker of the Lok Sabha, Sumitra Mahajan has accepted Tariq Hamid Karra’s resignation.

The reason why  Tariq Hamid Karra decided to quit the party has to do with the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti’s handling of the situation in Kashmir. The MP who had decided to resign in September itself had commented that the ruling party in Jammu and Kashmir’s handling of the situation in the valley went against his ideals. he had, in fact, commented that the party was treating the people of Kashmir “much worse than Nazi forces”. He also blamed the Centre for adding “fuel to fire” in the Valley with its “arm-twisting attitude and imperialistic methods”.

Speaking about his resignation from the ruling PDP party, Karra had said: “As a mark of protest on moral grounds against the brutal policies of the BJP at Centre and the state government’s complete sell out and surrender before them, I have decided to disassociate myself from the primary membership of the PDP and from the membership of Parliament.’’ (ALSO READ: Jayalalithaa health: PDP Minister visits Apollo hospital to check Tamil Nadu CM’s condition on behalf of Mehbooba Mufti)

“In the present tragic circumstances, when people of my homeland are being subjugated to the highest degree of brutalities by a party, which was floated to safeguard the life, property, honour, dignity, self-respect and their political aspirations, made a turnaround and treated its subjects much worse than the Nazi forces. I feel that still continuing with them would be equally subscribing to their administratively inhuman and politically unethical blunders,’’ Karra had added.

The situation in the Kashmir valley after the death of the Hizb-Ul-Mujahideen terrorist Burhan Wani, was too much for the MP to witness. Explaining the condition of father’s who had to carry their young son’s coffins, Karra said, “My conscience was shaken during the last two months due to PDP’s newly acquired avatar during the present upheaval… The seeds of deceit, discontent and betrayal got sown in the hearts and minds of the people that very day when PDP got into an alliance with the BJP and formed the government.”He then added, “There was no consonance between the coalition partners. Whatever was agreed to be done was not done. And whatever was agreed not to be done was done.”

Tariq Hamid Karra had also targetted Prime Minister Narendra Modi by saying that the Prime Minister was “pushing the country towards Hinduisation” and “converting the highly publicised Incredible India into Intolerant India”.
