Staggy Creek A Grade batted first against Tattersalls Rats and slumped to a dismal 8-86, but the saviour of the innings was Troy Brabant who finished with an unbeaten 102 runs. Mick Kenny completed a fine innings of 52, then last wicket batsman Jon Krauss carried on the fight back with 39. Krauss and Brabant smashed a tenth wicket partnership of 124 to complete Staggy Creeks revival and tally 289.
Jacob Haines took 6-33 for Rats to engineer the collapse but then observed the match-winning onslaught by Staggys’ tail-enders. Rats faced a huge task and at innings end their 136 fell way short of a victory celebration. Guy Mepham made 33 not out and Jacob Haines with 32 completed a fine personal performance. Blake Whitechurch starred with the ball to finish with 6-29. Troy Brabant took four catches to add to his undefeated century.
The other A Grade match saw an upset of sorts with RSM rolling an understrengthed Campbell & Freebairn. C & F batted first and were all out for 115. Tony Blake top scored with 24 while for RSM, Russ Campbell took a fine 4-23. Todd Hughes took the first three wickets to finish with 3-26. Just 99 runs stood between Tingha and victory. However, they folded to be all out for 65. Scott Peterson took a fine 6-28 and was supported by Jesse Williams with 4-35. The other B Grade encounter saw Empire Warriors, 8-247 defeat RSM all out for 110.
