Five lawyers arrested for attacking scribes

The police on Tuesday recorded the arrest of five lawyers, including the secretary of Trivandrum Bar Association Anayara Shaji, in connection with the alleged attack on scribes in the Vanchiyoor district court complexon Friday.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The police on Tuesday recorded the arrest of five lawyers, including the secretary of Trivandrum Bar Association Anayara Shaji, in connection with the alleged attack on scribes in the Vanchiyoor district court complexon Friday.
The others arrested were Rahul L R, Rethin R, Arun P Nair and Subhash B. They were released on bail immediately .
There were three cases registered against the lawyers based on separate complaints filed by Prabhat Nair of The New Indian Express, C P Ajeetha of Asianet News and Justeena Thomas of Manorama News.

The police had invoked IPC sections pertaining to unlawful assembly, using obscene words, wrongful restrainment and criminal use of force against the accused.Also invoked were sections pertaining to criminal intimidation and sexual gestures or acts degrading the dignity of women, all bailable offences.
Meanwhile, police have also registered a case against scribes Prabhat, J Ramakrishnan of PTI, Ajeetha and Justeena on a complaint by Anayara Shaji late on Monday evening. Shaji has accused them of verbally and physically abusing him at the court on Friday .
The untoward incidents were played out when the scribes turned up at the court to cover the proceedings of a petition against former minister E P Jayarajan.
