Dilon ka Shahzaada strikes again

The Nagina Bagh in the Golconda Fort came alive this weekend with the story of Prince Quli in a staging of Quli: Dilon ka Shahzaada. Theatre artiste Mohammad Ali Baig made quite an entrance atop a white stallion as the qawwali Piya Baaj Pyaala was sung live. Following an entrance that grand, the stage was set for an equally impressive production with the beautifully lit-up fort in the background.
Besides the main narrative of the romance between Quli Qutub Shah and his beloved Bhagmati, the qawwalis, taandav and the shadow dance that complemented the narrative was thoroughly enjoyed by the audience.
Deputy Chief Minister Mohammad Mahmood Ali, who was also present with his family, announced that the play would be a monthly feature at the Golconda Fort as it embodies Telangana’s Ganga-Jamuni tehzeeb. And the audience’s deafening applause at the end of the show only reiterated that.
