Ooty murder: Couple from Gudalur held
Udhagamandalam: The police have arrested a couple in Devala near Gudalur in the Nilgiris on Tuesday, in connection with a murder case.
On October 5, the decomposed body of a man was found inside the forest area in Cherambadi range of forests near Devala. Initially, it was suspected that the death was caused due to an animal attack. However, after thorough investigation, forest officials ruled out animal attack as cause of death.
The victim was identified as S Ravi, 39, of Kulivayal near Cherambadi.
During investigation, police found that the victim had been killed by a couple as the deceased had an affair with Poongodi, wife of Marudaiyan.
According to S Sakthivel, Devala DSP, Ravi was Marudaiyan's neighbour. On October 4, when Poongodi was home alone, Ravi went to his house and allegedly had sex with Poongodi, said the police official. However, their daughter had seen them together and told her father.
In a fit of anger, Marudaiyan stabbed Ravi with a screw driver and punctured his head with the same tool. He also doused Ravi with boiling water, said Sakthivel. He disposed off the body in a busy area 500m away from their house in Kulivayal.
"Marudaiyan, 52, and Poongodi, 44 were remanded to judicial custody and have been lodged in the central jail in Coimbatore," said Sakthivel. tnn
