Margao: The shadow council of Margao (SCM) has appealed to the voters of Margao to turn the by-election of ward 21 of the Margao municipal council (MMC) into a referendum against the issue of collection of garbage fees by the civic body.
“The move of the MMC to club the garbage fees with the house tax is unfair and unjustified as people generating less garbage end up paying the same amount as charged for those generating large quantum of waste,” Savio Coutinho of the SCM told mediapersons on Tuesday.

The SCM is backing the candidature of Sonali Kale for the by-election. Speaking to mediapersons, Kale said that she was confident of her ability to raise the issues concerning the city cand effect a positive outcome.
“It is not important just to be a nominee of a national party to contest a municipal election. It is equally important to understand the issues plaguing the city ,” Kale said.
