An Adinaad Dhol Damuo (drums and other traditional instruments) competition will be organised at Government Inter College at Akhori village, birthplace of eminent statehood agitator Indramani Badoni, on October 23. Purshotam Dutt Surira, organiser of the competition, announced this while addressing mediapersons here on Tuesday.

He said around 15 applications for the traditional drums competition had been received and cash prizes of Rs 11,000, Rs 5,100 and Rs 3,100 would be given to the teams that stand first, second and third, respectively. The fourth runner-up would be given Rs 2,100.

Purshotam said the event was dedicated to eminent cultural activist Jeet Ram Surira and they were expecting 25 teams to take part in the competition. It was sad that the condition of musicians playing drums was pathetic in the state due to their neglect by the government. The existence of traditional drums and instruments was in danger due to their neglect by the government and the competition was an effort to save the culture of the state, he added.

He said after the good response in the earlier competition, the organsiers would take up the cause of saving drums and other traditional instruments at competitions to be held at Akhori on October 23.

Cultural activist DR Purohit, prof Stefan, Acharya Sachchidanand Joshi, Ramesh Uniyal, Sushil Sharma and Onkar Das were present on the occasion.
