Clerkenwell mindfulness eatery opens

Counter Kitchen, a vibrant, all-day eatery, has just opened in London's Clerkenwell and emphasises conscious cooking for mindful foodies. Focusing on nutrient rich ingredients and punchy flavours designed to awaken the senses.

The concept ‘Because Mother Nature Nailed It’ underpins the menu and approach: keeping things simple and allowing natural flavours to shine through. From breakfast through to lunch, the seasonal menu celebrates produce at its finest. Counter Kitchen serves warming bowls, nourishing salads, soups and cold press juices which leave no room for empty calories.

Sensational salads are full of texture and flavour, like ‘Magic Mushroom’ (mixed warm sauteed wild mushrooms, with lolo rosso leaves, soba noodles, pickled daikon, black sesame seed, lemon miso dressing) or ‘Babylon’ (green and yellow courgettes, pink apple pomegranate seeds, labneh, rocket, hazelnuts & coriander leaf, creamy hazelnut dressing).

‘Warming Bowls’, are flavoursome all-in-one hot meals like ‘Kimchi Culture’ (aged homemade kimchi, stewed beef broth, silken tofu, pak choi, chives, ginger, garlic, black rice). Imaginative healthy soups include a ‘Cream of Tomato’ that contains NO cream and NO sugar, for the healthiest, most delicious twist on the classic, with toasted sourdough croutons.

Breakfast is no afterthought: Counter Kitchen gets brains in gear with its original take on avocado toast topped with homemade cucumber kimchi with an optional poached egg or beetroot cured salmon; or an almond butter toast topped with raw honey, cacao nibs and house seed mix.

Counter Kitchen has a spacious terrace perfect for taking a moment to enjoy an Allpress coffee prepared by the in-house barista, or for sharing a glass of bio-dynamic wine with friends. There is also a curated selection of beer and cider from small independent producers.

Located on Goswell Road, just north of Clerkenwell Road, Counter Kitchen offers a relaxed and comfortable stripped back, light filled space to eat, think and socialise for those who want to eat in. In this industrious and creative neighborhood, Counter Kitchen is a perfect new addition to the fuel the minds and big ideas of Clerkenwell.

Chef Matt Edwards, who left a successful career in music that saw him produce the likes of LCD Soundsystem and work with The White Stripes, Hot Chip and Badly Drawn Boy, brings his passion for cooking and rock star creativity to the wild and raw flavours he’s designed the Counter Kitchen menu around. He also brings experience from some of London’s finest restaurants – St John’s and Hix.

Co-founders Benjamin Meyer and William Heath bring their understanding from the worlds of finance and branding to unleash an exciting new creative food concept on London with exciting plans for further locations.
