CBI arrests central excise superintendent for bribery
PUNE: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested superintendent S D Meena of Central Excise, Faridabad for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000 from the complainant. A case was registered under section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 against Meena on a complaint.
The complainant (proprietor of a Faridabad based firm, name withheld) has alleged that five persons visited his office and introduced themselves as Central Excise officials and checked the papers of his company.
Subsequently, they threatened the complainant that his company will be sealed and demanded a bribe of Rs 5 lakh. It was further alleged that the said bribe amount was subsequently reduced to Rs 2.5 lakh and Rs 2 lakh were handed over to the superintendent on the same day.
For the remaining Rs 50,000 the complainant sought more time from the said accused and he was told to pay on October 10. CBI officials after verifying the information, laid a trap and caught the accused red handed. Searches were conducted at the residence and office premises of the accused. Role of the other accused is also being looked into.
