BHOPAL: All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) members from Madhya Pradesh on Monday alleged that the triple talaq issue is a deliberate attempt by the Union government to interfere in Muslim personal law ahead of the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections.
Muslim scholars and religious leaders from Bhopal, Indore, Ujjain and Burhanpur held a joint meeting here to discuss the action plan over the issue of talaq (divorce).
Addressing a press conference, Islamic scholars said the issue has been raised to score political points ahead of the UP elections. Noted Islamic scholar Peer Saeed Miyan, Bhopal Shahar Qazi Syed Mushtaq Ali Nadvi and AIMPLB member Arif Masood warned the government against pushing Uniform Civil Code through backdoor. Muslims of the state strongly stand with AIMPLB's decision over issue of talaq, they said.
Bhopal Shahar Qazi Syed Mushtaq Ali Nadvi said lakhs of signatures are being collected under a campaign and would be sent to the government in this regard. "The government could not be allowed to dictate religious matters and it must keep its hands off the personal law. The campaign is likely to gain momentum in coming days in MP," he said.
