Daman SDPO booked for extorting money from tourist

A sub divisional police officer (SDPO) of Daman police was booked by Nani Daman police on Monday for allegedly extorting money from a tourist.

SURAT: A sub divisional police officer (SDPO) of Daman police was booked by Nani Daman police on Monday for allegedly extorting money from a tourist. In the same case, 10 constables were already been suspended three days ago by senior police officials for alleged involvement in the extortion racket.
Sources close to investigation said that a senior officer of Daman administration received information about a tourist being victimized by the cops.
The tourist was de tained for alleged involvement in some criminal activity. Later to free the tourist the cops demanded money and after payment he was allowed to go.
On being instructed, senior police officials suspended and started inquiry. One of the suspended constables lodged complaint against the SDPO for alleged involvement in extortion.
Despite several attempts Daman superintendent of police and incharge inspector general, Meghna Yadav was not available for comment.
