In Karan Johar’s highly anticipated upcoming film, “Ae Dil Hai Mushkil,” a 33-year-old Ranbir Kapoor is seen romancing a 42-year-old former beauty queen, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan—age is just a number, right? The film is a love triangle between Kapoor, Bachchan, and Anushka Sharma. From the trailers alone we can see the age difference hasn’t hindered the chemistry between Kapoor and Bachchan—it’s steam!

Kapoor and Bachchan prove that talent, passion, and chemistry between a romantic on-screen pair is not determined by age differences. These two talented actors arent’ the only ones to take on this challenge. Although it is common for many Bollywood heroes to romance an actress practically half their age, in recent years many of Bollywood’s top heroines have acted opposite younger male co-stars! 1. Aishwariya Rai Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan

Did you know Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is two years older than her husband Abhishek? This stunning heroine has starred in multiple films with her young husband including the hit film, “Guru!” Whether on screen or off screen, this pair always looks perfectly magical.

2. Arjun Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor Khan

Sometimes young actors get to work with their “dream girl” as in the case of Arjun Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor Khan. Kapoor has always insisted he had a crush on Khan for years and he finally got to work with the gorgeous “Jab We Met” actress in their film “Ki and Ka.”

3. Arjun Kapoor, Ranveer Singh and Priyanka Chopra

“Quantico” star that is rocking Hollywood, Priyanka Chopra was seen opposite juniors Arjun Kapoor and Ranveer Singh in their film “Gunday.” The best friends are trapt in a romance on screen with the sexy Chopra who is three years older than the guys—but she’s so hot, who even noticed? Funnily enough, Singh and Chopra later play siblings in their hit film, “Dil Dhadakne Do,” and since have really bonded as siblings—Chopra even calls Singh her bhai.

4. Aditya Roy Kapur and Katrina Kaif

The lovely Katrina Kaif and “Aashiqui 2” hero Aditya Roy Kapur take on the challenges of a relationship in “Fitoor.” Although the film didn’t do so great at the box office the couple had quite the spark on screen—their age difference wasn’t even noticeable.

Kareena Kapoor Khan and Imran Khan star in not only one but two films together! After the success of their romantic comedy “Ek Main Aur Ek Tu,” the cute pair took on the film “Gori Teri Pyaar Main.” Kareena is three years older than Imran but they managed to make it work, in “Ek Main Aur Ek Tu,” her character was meant to be a bit older than Imran’s anyway.

6. Rani Mukherjee and Shahid Kapoor

Rani Mukherjee took on “Dil Bole Hadippa” opposite Bollywood’s chocolate boy, Shahid Kapoor, in 2009. Although only has a three year age difference, it really showed on screen and they couldn’t garner the chemistry needed. Needless to say, “Dil Bole Hadippa” didn’t fare so well at the box office.

7. Bipasha Basu and Ranbir Kapoor

Although their love story wasn’t complete, Bipasha Basu and Ranbir Kapoor made quite the pair in “Bachna Ae Haseeno.” Even though Basu is about four years older than Kapoor the duo still had an on-screen spark and easy chemistry on screen.

8. Shahid Kapoor and Vidya Balan

Although Vidya Balan is quite young, she’s always had a mature look to her and although Shahid Kapoor is a grown man—he still manages to look like a kid. This pairing was a mistake from the start! Balan is four years older than Kapoor and in their film “Kismet Konnection” the awkward pairing that didn’t help the film much.

9. Bipasha Basu and Neil Nitin Mukesh

Sexy siren Bipasha Basu was paired opposite Neil Nitin Mukesh in “Aa Dekhen Zara.” Like Ranbir Kapoor, Mukesh is also four years younger than Basu however this pairing couldn’t create the chemistry on the screen like Kapoor and Basu in “Bachna Ae Haseeno.”

10. Vidya Balan and Emraan Hashmi

Vidya Balan and Emraan Hashmi rocked the world with their hit film “The Dirty Picture.” They went on to do films like “Hamari Adhuri Kahaani,” and “Ghanchakkars.” Although the latter films didn’t fare as well as “The Dirty Picture.” The couple only has a one year difference, perhaps that helped theirs on screen chemistry.

11. Konkona Sen Sharma and Ranbir Kapoor

Konkona Sen Sharma and Ranbir Kapoor starred in the hit film “Wake Up Sid.” In the film, Sharma did play an older woman with Kapoor as a younger college student but their chemistry was phenomenal. The two were charming, relatable and refreshing to watch on screen together.

American top model and Bollywood newbie, Nargis Fakhri is breathtakingly beautiful and sweet. This lovely new star is seven years older than her “Main Tera Hero,” co-star Varun Dhawan! Who knew? Dhawan and Fakhri make such a sizzling hot pair and they had a fun chemistry on screen in the film that you couldn’t even tell there was any age difference at all!

13. Sridevi and Mehdi Nebbou

The ageless Sridevi showed the world a different side of the struggles of being an immigrant in America in her hit film, “English Vinglish.” Opposite the legendary beauty was Algerian actor Mehdi Nebbou, another student in Sridevi’s English language class who fell in love with her—he was 10 years younger than her! However, she played a married woman and turned down the kind affection Nebbou, opting to keep their relationship a lovely friendship instead.

14. Rani Mukherjee and Prithviraj

Bengali beauty Rani Mukherjee took on a role opposite South Indian hero Prithviraj in their romantic comedy “Aiyyaa.” Mukherjee is five years older than Prithviraj and although they didn’t look too tragic together, the film’s storyline and dialogues made things worse. Perhaps in a better film, these two can test their chemistry again.

In the cult classic “Dil Chahta Hai,” Akshaye Khanna falls in love with the much older divorced Dimple Kapadia. The duo was more than 18 years apart in age! However, as their roles were such, their age difference fit the storyline and only added to the magic of the film fans still love today.
