Gunrunner arrested, 28 pistols seized
New Delhi: The Special Cell of Delhi Police arrested a gunrunner from Nuh in Haryana and seized 28 semi-automatic pistols.
DCP (special cell) Pramod Kushwah said that the pistols are of .32 calibre and manufactured in Sendhwa of Madhya Pradesh. Each pistol was bought for around Rs 20,000 and sold for around Rs 35,000 to Delhi’s gangsters. The weapons were brought in via trains and trucks.
“A team led by ACP Manoj Dixit and inspector Shiv Kumar tracking illegal arms being smuggled into Delhi-NCR got a tip-off about the consignment of pistols.
A trap was laid near Ashram Chowk and a Mewat resident, Akram Khan, was arrested around 11pm on Sunday,” Kushwah said. The seized pistols are engraved with “Made in USA”.
On interrogation, Khan revealed that he worked for Mufeed of Chhata, Mathura and Bharatpur resident Khursheed, the main receivers of the illegal arms from Sendhwa. The weapons were sold to gangsters in Delhi-NCR and other parts of the country by Khursheed and Mufeed.
Khan told the police 20 of the 28 pistols were to be given to Mufeed and the remaining eight to Khursheed. He got Rs 1,000 per pistol from the receivers.
Earlier in September, the Special Cell had seized a consignment of 20 semi-automatic pistols from a Firozabad-based gunrunner. This was just after a week of a policeman being gunned down by criminals armed with .32 bore pistols.
