RAWALPINDI: The Punjab Emergency Service Rescue-1122 on Wednesday held a walk to create awareness among masses about importance of volunteerism in societies.
A large number of people from different walks of life including scouts, rescuers, students, social activists and representatives of Pakistan Red Crescent Society, Earthquake Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Authority and Fire and Safety association participated in walk.
The walk started from Chandni chowk and culminated at Shamsabad Chowk, Benazir Bhutto road.
Earlier, the Rescue-1122 organized a symposium in connection with the international Volunteers Day renewing the pledge to serve the suffering humanity with more devotion and dedication.
In her welcome address, Emergency Officer Community Training Deeba Shahnaz Akhter briefed the participants of the conference about volunteerism, role of volunteers for safer communities and contribution of rescue volunteers in emergencies and calamities like situations.
President of Pakistan Green Task Force Dr. Jamal Nasir, President of Fire and safety Association Ghulam Muhammad Naz, Rescue Community volunteers form Civil Defence, university of Lahore Islamabad campus, Adcon institute and PRCS expressed their views about volunteer activities on the occasion.
Speaker also shared their experience in the field of social and volunteer work and urged the younger generation for spending some time in carrying out welfare activities on regular basis.
Dr. Jamal Nasir paid tribute to volunteers for their services they render in emergencies and natural calamities for protecting precious lives, adding, "It is responsibility of all to promote more and more social activities in the society."
