Madurai: A 27-year-old woman hailing from
Oomachikulam was brutally murdered by her paramour who reportedly kicked her off from a two-wheeler she was riding, got down from his bike and slit her throat.
The cold-blooded murder happened on the main road connecting
Madurai Alanganallur to
Palamedu on Sunday night.
The woman, identified as
Nagajothi, 27, wife of Saravanan of VOC Street in Oomachikulam on the outskirts of the city, was working in a petrol bunk.
Police investigation revealed that a dispute between the victim and the accused, who were in an extramarital relationship, led to the murder. A case was registered with Alanganallur police station and the accused, identified as
Murugan, 31, son of
Pandi from MGR Nagar near
Kancharampettai, arrested.
Murugan was a farmer and the duo had struck up a relationship three years ago. Police said there was a dispute between the two recently, following which Nagajothi ended the immoral union. As Murugan tried to mend fences, she didn't give in prompting him to murder Nagajothi.
He knew the time she travelled back home from her work place on her two-wheeler and followed her on his bike on Sunday night. Though he asked her to stop the vehicle, she didn't pay heed. An enraged Murugan kicked her bike as she was travelling in high speed. Nagajothi lost her balance and was thrown off the vehicle but ended up with only minor injuries. However, Murugan approached the woman and brutally murdered her.
On being tipped off, police rushed to the spot and shifted the body to government hospital.
The accused who was picked up based on suspicion admitted to the crime during the investigation.
