There's mounting excitement among the population of Manu'a in American Samoa ahead of the commissioning of a solar power system later this month.
The $8.1 million project is being funded by proceeds from a government bond issue designed to generate finance for major infrastructure developments.
The largest island in the group, Ta'u, will be the first to be switched on, followed by Ofu and Olosega at the end of the year.
Monica Miller in Pago Pago says the new system will take the pressure off the territory's main island of Tutuila, and remove the need to ship up to 60 barrels of diesel a day to Manu'a.
