Sangwan khap today banned Chinese goods, including crackers, in villages of its influence till Diwali. The decision taken at a meeting in the district’s Charkhi village comes in the wake of China’s support to Pakistan on the recent Uri attack, in which 18 soldiers were killed.

The khap has influence in nearly 40 villages of Dadri.

Sangwan khap pradhan Col Rishal Singh (retd) said village-level committees had been formed to keep a check on the implementation of the ban. “China always favours Pakistan which spreads terrorism in India. The khap has taken a unanimous decision to boycott Chinese products during Diwali,” a spokesperson for the khap said.

Col Singh said the khap had urged senior citizens of villages to convince youths not to burst crackers. “The committees will launch an awareness drive to sensitise youths about the hazards of air pollution,” he added.— TNS
