Athletics meet begins at The Asian School

DEHRADUN: The 17th Inter House Annual Athletics Meet of The Asian School, Dehradun, began here today.

The 17th Inter House Annual Athletics Meet of The Asian School, Dehradun, began here today. The meet was inaugurated by Principal AK Das with much zeal and fervor.

He declared the event open and hoisted the school flag. This was followed by a march past led by athletics captain Kamal Nayan. The participants took oath in the glory of sport, abiding by the rules in the true spirit of sportsmanship.

Four contigents of different Houses were led by sports captain Shiv Sabarwal along with the head boy Neopolean Chetia, head girl Nicole R Sangama, vice head boy Shivang Uniyal and vice-head girl Suditi Thapliyal.

The flag of the Arjun House was held by Sarim Ali Khan and Yumlam Keya. Ashoka House was led by Amado Marak and Bidya Adhikari. The flag bearers of Ranjit House were Raghav Maheshwari and Muskan Aggarwal. The flag of Shivaji Hosue was held aloft by Akhiljeet Singh Chugh and Rashi Jain.

On the first day, a number of track events were held.

In girls’ 800m final, Khushi Bajaj of Ashoka House bagged the first position while second and third positions were bagged by Simran Kashyap and Khanak Aggarwal of Shivaji House and Ashoka House, respectively.

In boys’ (above 14) 800m final, Krishna Kant of Ranjeet House stood first followed by Shiv Sabarwal of Shivaji House. The third position went to Jigyash Saikia of Ashoka House. The same house won the under-12 boys’ 4 x100m relay race.

Vice- Principal AVD Thapliyal, head of middle school Mukesh Nangia, head mistress Kalpana Grover, staff members and students attended the function. The finals of the track and field events in various categories will be held on October 21.
