Swathy Narayanan steps into Kollywood as a 10th grader
Actress Swathy Narayanan's character Sheela in the Jayasurya-starrer Su' Su' Sudhi Vathmeekam, might have left a bad taste in the audience mind after she dumped the protagonist who suffered speech-impediment.
But it looks like she managed to impress the filmmakers in other film industries as she bagged a meaty role in a Tamil film titled Ilai.
'I play the title character Ilai, a 10th grader girl, in the heroine-oriented film,' says Swathy.
'She is a traditional, quiet girl, and the story focuses on her relationship with her father, quite a bit. When he passes away, Ilai has to face a few hardships within the span of a single day, and the film is about this incident.'
The film's director, debutant Bineesh Raj says, 'The story is set in the 90s, in a remote village in Tamil Nadu. The people there don't agree with girls pursuing education, but Ilai has big dreams about her future and wants to study. She has to face opposition even from her mom, and the story is about how the little girl takes up on the challenges.'
Swathy apparently has a de-glam look for her character in the movie. Bineesh says, 'Despite being distraught with challenges, Ilai is a person who is always calm. We picked Swathi as we felt she can pull off a personality of such demeanour, with ease.'
The movie, which is also scripted by Bineesh, has wrapped up the filming in Chennai.
