The Anti-terrorist Cell (ATC) of the Pune police has arrested two for possession of two hides, suspected to be of a tiger and a deer, and tusks of a wild boar, that are protected species under the Wild Life Protection Act.
The hides have been sent for lab tests to ascertain details like species and age of animal killed.
The two suspects have been identified as Mahendra Urchap Pawar (20) and Mangal Divar Bhosale (35). Pawar is the native of Nandgaon in Nashik, currently residing at Babugeun Chowk in Shukrawar Peth along with his aide Bhosale, said the police.
Acting on a tip-off to senior Inspector Sanjiv Patil of ATC, a police team raided Raj Lodge in Shukrawar Peth around 4 pm on Saturday. The hides and tusks were recovered from the duo’s cloth bag. Probe revealed that the duo got the hides from someone in Mumbai.
