PATNA: Mental health of a person is more important than his physical health. Hence there is an urgent need for application of psychological first aid (PFA) for tackling the mental problems of children, said head of the department of psychiatry, Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (IGIMS), Dr Rajesh Kumar in the state capital on Monday.
Delivering a lecture on "Psychological First Aid and Mental Health", organized by the Centre for Psychological Services (CPS) of Central University of South Bihar (CUSB) on the occasion of World Mental Health Day, Dr Rajesh pointed out that PFA is generally applied in cases of adults, while children are invariably ignored.
Psychological, social and family support are very important for effective and complete treatment through PFA.
Earlier, CPS faculty Narsingh Kumar welcomed the guests and shared his personal experiences on PFA treatment.
A competition on power point presentation on the topic "Mental health and psycho-social approach to the management of mental health problems", was also organized on the occasion in which students of both graduation and post-graduation participated.
A student of CUSB media studies department won the first prize, while post graduate student Jaya Shukla got the second prize. Ayush Anand and Aparna Verma from psychology department of CUSB shared the third prize jointly. A street play and a documentary produced by the Zeeshan Yasir, a student of media department, was also screened on the occasion.
