UP STF arrests most wanted criminal accused in 18 cases including 12 murders
GREATER NOIDA: The UP STF on Monday arrested a dreaded criminal of the Hawa Singh Bahelia gang and a Rs 10000 rewardee, who was on the run since 2009. Shyam Singh Bahelia, was living in a Rs. 1 crore house in Delhi with fake identity proofs and had taken to crimes like chain loot and snatching in Delhi. He is accused in 18 cases among which include 12 murders.
The accused was nabbed from near a wine shop in Jagat Farm area of Kasna, while he was going to Agra to meet his old accomplices there.
STF officials said Bahelia was a tough catch since he had used six different identities (all of his relatives) to evade police. In 2009, he had killed four of a family during a dacoity bid attacking all of them with hammers.
Bahelia (40), was arrested in the wee hours on Monday by a team of 7-8 officials including an inspector, two sub inspectors and commandos of Noida STF. The accused was brought into crime world by his neighbour Raj Kishore Baheria alias Kala Pradhan, through whom he was inducted into the Hawa Singh Baveria gang. Both belong to the same village Banpoyi of Farukkhabad district.
He continued to commit dacoities one by one forming a Baveria gang consisting Deepak Bahelia, Suresh Bahelia, Parshail Bahelia, Ajit Bahelia, Satish Bahelia and Rahul Bahelia. Shyam was residing in Delhi’s Uttam Nagar area under the alias of Dileep Singh for the past 2-3 years and had also bought property there. He had also bought property in Dausa of Rajasthan where his mother is settled.
He recently sold seven tolas of gold in Delhi, Mishra said. “The fifth standard pass was staying in Uttam Nagar with his wife and three children, while his mother is staying in Dausa of Rajasthan. He had got her settled there after fleeing from Firozabad area in June 2009,” DSP, STF Noida, Raj Kumar Mishra said.
Among his most dreaded dacoities, he along with eight other members of his gang killed four members of a family and seriously injured five others by repeatedly attacking them with hammers. The incident happened in April 2009, at Jabra village of Maat police station area of Mathura when the gang attempted a dacoity on the house of Digambar Singh, killing Ajit, Mira, Tinku and Birjon and injured Brajpal, Geeta, Sonia, Billo and Sonu. The gang members had left the five injured at the spot, thinking that they are dead and fled the area under police pressure.
