CHENNAI: Nissan Motor India, one of the fastest growing and biggest car exporters, clocked 20% growth in exports for September compared to the same month one year earlier.
"This performance by Nissan is the best among major carmakers in India in the passenger vehicle segment," said a company statement.
Nissan Motor exported a total of 11,999 vehicles -- including both Nissan and Datsun cars -– in September.
"Exports from the Renault-Nissan Alliance plant in Oragadam near Chennai strengthens Nissan’s presence in India," said the statement.
India's passenger vehicle exports jumped 13.47% in the April-August 2016 period. According to data released by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), passenger vehicle exports jumped from 2,60,986 units last year to 2,96,148 units this time round. Of this, cars made up the bulk.
Car exports comprised 2,29,319 units of the total, up 3.23% from 2,22,142 units last year. Hyundai and Nissan are India's top vehicle exporters.
Commenting on the issue, Guillaume Sicard, president, Nissan India Operations, said, “Our strategy to use our plant in India as an export hub underlines our significant presence here and also demonstrates our long-term plans for growth. The Chennai plant is the largest and most advanced in the alliance, and directly and indirectly we have created 40,000 jobs in India, including 6,000 high value engineering jobs at our R&D centre.”

Nissan earlier this year announced the start of exports of the Datsun redi-GO to South Africa, Sri Lanka and Nepal, in addition to the Datsun GO and GO+.
Nissan Motor India Private Ltd (NMIPL) is a 100% subsidiary of Nissan Motor Co Ltd Japan. The company was incorporated in 2005 and offers products across segments including hatchback, MUV, SUV and sedan models in India.
Nissan together with its global alliance partner Renault set up a manufacturing plant and a research & development centre near Chennai. Nissan in India has a portfolio of two brands, Nissan and Datsun.
