Hyderabad: Special Operations Team (SOT) sleuths of Cyberabad police apprehended five persons and seized a variety of contraband brought to the city from Goa on Sunday.
Police nabbed Mehar Charan (23), Madhav Rao (25), Mukesh Singh (26), Sushruth (25) and Krishna Kanth (26). Acting on a tip-off, the SOT team of Shamshabad intercepted a Honda City car near Shadnagar toll plaza at 4 am on Sunday and took Mukhesh, Sushruth and Krishna Kanth, who were in the car, into custody.
The trio confessed that two of their associates - Mehar Charan and Madhav - had left the place in a red Mahindra Thar vehicle towards Gachibowli 10 minutes before.
Cops then intercepted the second vehicle near ICICI bank building at Gachibowli at 6.30 am and took Charan and Madhav into custody. "We seized 32 Ecstasy pills, four grams of hashish, 19 LSD blot papers, three grams of methamphetamine from the possession of Charan," SOT inspector P Srinivas Reddy said. On interrogation, Charan and Madhav confessed that they went to Goa in the Honda City four days before and purchased the various contraband for Rs 50,000 to sell it in Hyderabad for profit.
To evade police surveillance, Charan and Madhav made the other three accused meet them near Mahbubnagar on the national highway and swapped the vehicles. "Mukhesh, Sushruth and Krishna Kanth drove from the city to Mahbubnagar in Mahindra Thar vehicle and met Charan and Madhav coming to the city from Goa on the highway near Mahbubnagar. After the meeting, as per their plan, Charan and Madhav got into Thar and continued their journey towards the city, while the rest started their return journey in the Honda City car when they were intercepted near Shadnagar toll plaza," a Gachibowli police official said.
Mehar Charan, the main accused, told police that he had been selling drugs in the city for the past several months and recently sold Rs three lakh worth narcotics to customers in Hyderabad, which he had purchased it for Rs 1.2 lakh in Goa. They were handed over to the Gachibowli police for further investigation and cops were trying to find out about Goa-based suppliers and their customers in the city.
