Hyderabad: Eflu student says denied PHD entry

Two years into the course, he fell ill and failed in eight subjects and was not promoted.

Hyderabad: A student of the English and Foreign Languages University has submitted representations to the NHRC, National Commission for Scheduled Tribe, the Union HRD and tribal affairs ministries and the President alleging discrimination.

The issue involving Mr M Sriramulu Nayak dates back to 2013. Mr Nayak had taken admission in the five-year integrated course in German at EFLU in 2010. Two years into the course, he fell ill and failed in eight subjects and was not promoted.

He asked the university for provide remedial classes, which he claims were provided only after a member of National Commission for ST in 2013 directed the university to comply with.

Mr Nayak claims that he wrote exams through assignments on the condition of confidentiality from the university. At completing the course, he qualified in the UGC NET in German and applied for and secured admission into PhD German again at the university.

Asked how he could gain admission in PhD without clearing the five-year course, he said, “My result was posted on the notice board that I got 68 per cent but it was removed later.”

When contacted, Eflu Proctor Prof. Prakash Kona said, “He was provided remedial classes and we did everything we could. He was unable to clear subjects to get the required credits.”
