TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - National Police Chief General Tito Karnavian denied he had instructed Criminal Investigation Department (Bareskrim) to investigate Amien Rais.
In the past few days, there has been news circulating that Tito ordered Bareskrim to investigate Amien Rais since he accused President Joko Widodo of protecting Jakarta Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnamarelating to the recent religious defamation issue.
"I notice that recently there have been hoaxes intended to discredit me. For example, there is a slide containing my brief that is not true and the source is unclear. In addition, there is fabricated information in which I investigate Amien Rais in relation to Governor Ahok’s issue," Tito added on Sunday (16/10).
Tito went on by saying that he and Ahok shared nothing but professional relationship. He added that people should not take news on social media for granted, especially during period of regional elections.
During such a period, social media are used to raise electability of the candidates or to attack competing candidates.
"Let’s resort to means that are peaceful, intelligent, democratic, and without violence or threats to show that we are a civilized and democratically mature nation," He concluded.
