Charlie stars Dulquer Salmaan, Parvathy shine at state film awards’ night

While Martin Prakkat bagged best director award for Charlie, Dulquer Salmaan was named best actor for the same film. Parvathy won the best actress award for her performance in Charlie and Ennu Ninte Moideen.

Ennu Ninte Moideen, directed by R S Vimal, won awards in seven different categories. The film, which had Parvathy and Prithviraj in the lead, was based on the real life story that took place in Mukkam, Kozhikode during the 1960s.

Ozhivu Divasathe Kali directed by Sanalkumar Sashidharan won the award in the best film category, and director Manoj Kana’s hard-hitting film Amoeba was named the second best movie.

Kerala’s highest award in Malayalam cinema, JC Daniel Award this year was presented to filmmaker KG George for outstanding contributions to the Malayalam film industry. The chief minister also honoured veteran actors Madhu, Sarada, Sheela, Kaviyoor Ponnamma lyricist Sreekumaran Thampy, music director MK Arjunan and Oscar-winning sound designer Resul Pookutty.

For the first time, the function was held in Palakkad. Speaking at the event, Vijayan promised to organise film festivals in various parts of the state, which will be a departure from tradition as Thiruvananthapuram so far was considered as the permanent venue for such events. 

He also announced that a film festival venue at a cost of Rs 50 crore will be constructed in the state capital, said reports.
