Ludhiana bizman gets 1-yr RI in cheque bounce case

A Hoshiarpur court sentenced Kanwalpreet Singh Basant, Managing Director of Ludhiana-based Basant Group of Companies, to one-year RI and imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 in a cheque bounce case due to insufficient funds in his account. In case of default of payment of fine, he will have to undergo one more month of imprisonment.

Weapon, liquor seized

The BSF on Saturday raided two houses in the 10-km border belt in Sriganganagar. Officials said a pistol and 10 cartridges were recovered from the house of farmer Baldev Singh. He has been arrested. During a search in the house of Sudhir Bishnoi, 725 litres of liquor were seized.

1 dies as tubewell caves in

Rajinder Meghwal (30) died as a tubewell caved in at Chak 3LCA village in Sriganganagar on Saturday. His grandfather Bahadur Ram said Rajinder was affixing some bricks on the sidewall of the tubewell when it caved in.

Sikh bodies protest against ‘MSG-3’ 

Members of Sikh organisations on Saturday opposed the screening of Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Raheem Singh’s latest film ‘MSG-3’. A delegation led by Shingara Singh Badla, district president of the SAD (Amritsar), submitted a memorandum to the district administration for stopping the screening.
