Three Gujarat students win Dr A P J Abdul Kalam IGNITE award

Three students from Gujarat have been short-listed for Dr A P J Abdul Kalam IGNITE award. The three were among the 32 selected students who bagged the award out of the 55,089 entries received by National Innovation of India (NIF), an autonomous body of the department of science and technology, which announces the award every year on October 15, Dr APJ Abdul Kalam’s birthday, which is celebrated as the Children’s Creativity and Innovation Day by NIF.

IGNITE is national competition of original technological ideas and innovations by children up to class 12 or those out of school up to the age of 17 years. The competition ran from September 1, 2015 to August 31, 2016 during which time 55,089 entries were received from 458 districts. Addressing a press conferenceSaturday, Dr Anil Gupta, former professor of IIM-A, said innovations of these children would be taken to market soon.

The three students from Gujarat and their ideas are: 1. Jahnvi Rupareliya, a Class 9 student of Gyanganga Education Society, Rajkot, who made a low-cost cockroach-killing gel. 2. Bhavesh Amritlal Prajapati, a Class 8 student from Hamirgadh Primary School in Sabarkantha district, who made a wheelchair that helps enter the car without any strain and a modified walker. 3. Govind K Sharma, a class 12 student from Gramsabha Gra-mbharti, Amrapur in Gandhin-agar who made an auto blanket covering mechanism for old, aged and physically challenged.
