Bhoomi Puja performed for construction of Kalam’s memorial

Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu, Oct 15 (UNI) The “bhoomi puja” (ground breaking ceremony) for the construction of “Dr A P J Abdul Kalam National memorial” was performed at his burial site at Pei Karumbu here, today.
On the occasion of the 85th birth anniversary of the former President, his elder brother A P J Mohammed Muthu Meeran Maraikayar performed the bhoomi puja rituals in the presence of his family members, senior scientists of Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), besides several students and local people.
Official sources said a total sum of Rs 50 crore had been allocated for the construction of the memorial and a knowledge centre. In the first phase, Rs 15 crore would be spent on the construction of the memorial on a sprawling 27,000 sq ft area. The memorial would be ready for inauguration on July 27 next year, the second death anniversary of Dr.Kalam. The construction of knowledge centre will be taken up in the second phase.
