PUNE: Some burglars broke into a bank manager's flat at
Chandrama Prestige Society at Ghule Vasti in Manjari, near
Hadapsar, and fled with gold ornaments and cash collectively worth Rs 2.71 lakh.
The thieves are suspected to have taken the stairs to the fourth floor. They used a sharp object to break the padlock securing the flat, which is rented by Abhijit Mohite, the manager of
HDFC bank's
Ranjangaon branch.
His wife Riya runs a self-help group.
The couple lives in a seven-storeyed building which has 30 flats. However, the building has no
CCTV surveillance, and to make matters worse, the lone security guard was asleep at the time. Abhijit returned from work at 3.30pm and saw that the lock was broken. He called his wife, who was out on work. She rushed home and discovered that a debit card, gold ornaments worth Rs 26,000 and Rs 2.45 lakh in cash, were missing. "We had taken a loan and saved some money to construct a house in Hadapsar," Riya told TOI.
A witness had seen an unidentified man carry a bag out of the building around 1.30pm.
The police are working on clues and are confident of solving the case soon.
