HUBBALLI: Due to lack of maintenance, the new bus terminus in the city is in a bad shape. Weeds have grown in the empty space inside the terminus and the vast area has turned into a dump yard. This has forced many passengers to depend on the old bus terminus.
K Raghavendra, a passenger, said that scattered garbage, dirty benches, haphazard parking and damaged gates are a common sight at the bus terminus.
Drinking water is not available and there are no proper toilets. The NWKRTC authorities must make the bus terminus passenger-friendly, he said. The city corporation must come forward and utilize the empty space properly and provide adequate facilities for passengers, he added.
Vanaja Lekhi Naik, assistant traffic manager (ATM) admitted that the condition of the new bus terminus is bad. She said necessary measures will be taken to maintain cleanness and provide adequate facilities in the bus terminus. "There is a plan to take up plantation in the empty space. We will remove the weeds shortly," she said.
J Sultana, inspector and in charge of the bus terminus told TOI that she wrote to the NWKRTC civil department a couple of months ago to take steps to maintain cleanliness. She is waiting for the response from the higher authorities in this regard. "We will take up cleanliness work shortly," she said.
