BJP returns stronger when SP in power: BSP

Siddiqui, the BSP national general secretary, said that even though his party thrice formed the government with BJP, the party “did not let the RSS agenda be implemented” in the state. “Mayawati sacrificed her government when she was being dictated terms,” he said.

He said that BJP and SP were taking care of each other’s interests as per a tacit understanding “as everyone knows that SP is no more in a condition to fight the communal forces”.

Claiming that his party had always worked to weaken “the communal forces”, Siddiqui said BSP had taught a lesson to BJP by making its government at the Centre fall by one vote in 1999. He said BSP has always worked to weaken BJP while SP has made the saffron party stronger. He said BJP won only nine Lok Sabha seats in 2009 when BSP was in power, but won 73 seats during SP regime in the state.

He said the BJP was “nearly finished” with only two MPs ahead of the Lok Sabha elections in 1989 but Mulayam and late V P Singh entered into an understanding with the saffron party, which then won 88 seats.

Siddiqui claimed that SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav had won his first election from Jaswant Nagar seat in 1967 with the help from Jan Sangh and it was the BJP led regime at Centre, which had helped him form a government in UP in 2003 even though he lacked the requisite numbers in the Assembly.

He alleged that Mulayam had snapped ties with grand alliance in Bihar after leading it in order to help the BJP in elections.

On Mulayam’s statement that even if 30 people had been killed in the 1990 firing on Kar Sevaks instead of 16, he would not have withdrawn his decision, Siddiqui claimed the SP chief made the remarks only to reap political benefits. He said Mayawati was CM of BSP-BJP coalition government in 1995 when RSS and VHP leaders wanted to perform jalabhishek in Kashi and mahayagya at an Eidgah in Mathura, but she had not allowed them, saying she did not want any new tradition to start.

Siddiqui said Mayawati who was in a similar situation as Mulayam, “preferred to sacrifice her government”.
