NAGPUR: An immortal in the world of Indian music, October 13 this year was the 29th death anniversary of Kishore Kumar. Then how is it possible to not revisit his contribution to the music. ‘Diamonds Forever’ series commemorated Kumar’s 29th anniversary with a tribute show on Friday at Scientific Society Hall, Laxmi Nagar.
Sagar Madhumatke, known in the music circuit as Kumar’s voice, was the lead singer for the evening, accompanied by Shreya Kharabe and Sarang Joshi.
Sarang opened the evening with the classic ‘Mana janaab ne pukara nahi’ (Paying Guest, 1957). Colourful spotlights danced on the stage and a full-fledged orchestra accompanied the singers. Madhumatke made his entry into the stage from the backdoor of the seating hall and enthralled the guests when he sang a rendition of ‘Rote huye aate hain sab’.
Anchor Mrunalini Dasture gave interesting insights on her narrative of Kishore Kumar’s personality, his childhood, his struggles and his personal life, often weaving his songs into stories or using comic anecdotes, making audience break into a hearty laugh. Interspersing shayaris as she went along, she managed to hold a steady interest of the audience. Upbeat songs were chosen from Kumar’s vast array of hit numbers.
“Abhas, Kumar's real name, was often mocked by his family members for his hoarse voice,” said Dasture. She also highlighted Kumar's desire to become a filmstar. However, turn of events made Kumar become a charming singer.
At ‘Çhala jata hoon kisi ki dhun mein’ Madhumatke got down from the stage and sang from the aisles, raising the mood of the audience to another level and eliciting whistles and claps.
‘Yeh shaam mastaani’, ‘Fir wahi raat hain’, ‘Liye sapne nigahon mein’, ‘O hansini’, and ‘Roop tera mastana’ were some of the other songs which regaled the audience. The event was organized by Siddhivinayak Publicity.

Singing is my hobby and attending musicals is my passion. I don’t miss any concert held in the city, especially of a legendary singer like Kishoreda. If my family doesn’t want to join me for the show, I make it a point to go on my own
