On Thursday evening, Ansel Elgort strolled into the Etro boutique in SoHo clad in a black velvet suit and bright purple oxfords. “I’m from New York and have walked past this Etro store plenty of times, and have always wanted to walk in and leave in all Etro,” the Brooklyn native (by way of Bed-Stuy) declared. “So I was excited when I was invited to this event and got to wear head-to-toe Etro — except for my socks and underwear, of course.”
Elgort had come out to the store with his girlfriend Violetta Komyshan to fete the brand’s collaboration with Disaronno. Etro stuck true to their famous paisley print, swathing the bottles in vibrant colors such as red, blue and green. One guest remarked that the bottle design reminded them of the “crazy prints” they saw in Italy. Each year the liqueur brand works with a different Italian based fashion brand (past partnerships include Moschino, Versace and Roberto Cavalli) to redesign the skin of the bottle as part of their “Fashion 4 Development” initiative. Profits from the bottles are donated to support developing textile trade and poverty in Africa.
The intimate gathering featured cocktails (Disaronno, natch, with lemon and pineapple juice) and brought out lovers of both brands. The crowd included Olivia Palermo, Sophie Elgort, Natalie Suarez, who all came dressed in Etro. Throughout the night, guests enjoyed music by ubiquitous fashion event DJ May Kwok and were able to peruse Etro’s new fall collection.
For those looking ahead to the holidays, the collection of custom bottles will hit stores just in time for a festive Thanksgiving cocktail. Cheers to that.
