Six booked for illegal construction near ASI sites

The police have booked six traders for unauthorised construction adjoining protected monuments and sites, including Firoz Shah Palace complex and Gujri Mahal, in the town.

In a complaint to the police, Archeological Survey of India (ASI) Assistant Conservator Ashish Belwal stated that there could not be any construction within a radius of 100 metres of the ASI’s protected monuments. While permission of the ASI was mandatory for the construction in further 100 metres (200 metres radius from the monument site).

He said that six traders adjoining the two sites had started construction without permission from the ASI. The official had earlier written to the Deputy Commissioner office in this regard.

Acting on the complaint, the police today registered a case under Sections 30 and 24 of the 1958 Ancient Monuments and Archeological Sites and Remains (AMASR) Act against six persons. The accused have been identified as Jasisa Ram of New Cloth Market, Parveen Kumar, a shop owner in Inderprastha Colony, Satpal and Om Prakash, owners of Neel Khanth Hotel, Anil Popli of CMC Hospital and Ram Babu of Tilak Bazaar in the town.

Investigation Officer Bhoop Singh said that the police had started investigation into the case. — TNS
