U-19 boxing champ gets rousing welcome

BHIWANI: Monika Pilania (18) from the district’s Mitathal village has won the gold medal in 62nd Under-19 school national boxing competition held at Warangal in Telangana from October 3 to 7.

Monika Pilania (18) from the district’s Mitathal village has won the gold medal in 62nd Under-19 school national boxing competition held at Warangal in Telangana from October 3 to 7.

Monika was today given a rousing welcome by her coach and budding boxing players at Ajit Boxing Academy in Bhiwani.

Naveen Balhara, head coach of the academy, said Monika came from a modest background and her father was a farmer.

Balhara said she had earlier won the gold medal in the Under-17 school games in Punjab.

Academy president Surender Mintu said Monika had brought laurels to the state and would perform even better in the Sub-Junior state boxing competition to be held in the district from October 16.
