AAP netas give President list of parliament secretary's in other states
NEW DELHI: Senior Aam Aadmi Party members, including deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia, met President Pranab Mukherjee on Friday and submitted a list of MLAs in other states who are parliamentary secretaries and are also paid for that. AAP’s 21 MLAs have been staring at an uncertain future for holding parliamentary secretary posts.
In a letter submitted to the President by Sisodia, he wrote: “CMs of various states have administered oaths to MLAs as chief parliamentary secretaries/parliamentary secretaries.
Appointment of these are prima facie in violation of the Constitution as they are getting salaries, allotted VIP vehicles and other perks. It is very pertinent to bring to your notice that the financial condition of these states is bleeding. Therefore, in these circumstances where crores of rupees are being spent on these chief parliamentary secretaries/parliamentary secretaries, it is respectfully prayed that these MLAs who are holding office of profit in addition to being MLAs should be immediately disqualified.”
The party submitted a list of 11 such MLAs in Chhatisgarh 11, five in Gujarat, four in Haryana and nine in Himachal Pradesh.
On Monday, the Election Commission gave the AAP MLAs a week’s time to file their replies to the office of profit controversy, rejecting their plea for more time. The next hearing in this case is on October 17.
