Fil-Am convicted of killing his father faces 6 years

WEST COVINA, California — A 21-year-old man was convicted Wednesday, Oct. 12 of fatally stabbing his father at their West Covina home in 2015, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced.

At Wednesday’s court appearance, Maverick Jacob Jimenez pleaded no contest to a felony count of involuntary manslaughter.

The defendant also admitted a special allegation that he personally used a deadly and dangerous weapon, a knife, during the commission of the crime.

Jimenez is scheduled to be sentenced Jan. 4 in Department F of the Los Angeles County Superior Court, Pomona Branch. He is expected to be sentenced to six years in state prison.

Deputy District Attorney Marie Cox, who prosecuted the case, said on Aug. 16, 2015, defendant Maverick Jimenez got into a physical fight with his father, Joey Jimenez.

During the altercation, the defendant stabbed his father, the prosecutor said.

Authorities were called and Joey Jimenez, 49, was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Soon after the attack, law enforcement located the defendant and arrested him in connection with the incident.

The case was investigated by the West Covina Police Department.
