CHENNAI: Teach For India (TFI) has launched a novel incubator programme, TFIx, for new as well as experienced entrepreneurs who want to bring educational equity to all corners of the country. The non-profit organisation will provide yearlong support to 25 people who are selected as they set up their organisations.
“We’re looking for entrepreneurs who have a strong sense of purpose, demonstrated leadership experience, risk-taking abilities and a desire to be a lifelong champion of the movement for equity in education,” says Shaheen Mistri, CEO of TFI.

TFI aims at reaching one million children by 2022. “All new and experienced entrepreneurs who are interested in doing something in the education sector are welcome to apply,” says Suraj Katra, communications team, TFI.
“Entrepreneurs are carefully selected based on a range of criteria, including passion for educational equity and commitment to stay the course and an openness to learn and grow,” he says.
TFIx will run a year-long incubation programme to help entrepreneurs adapt the Teach For India model to their context and launch their fellowships by providing the required skills, experience and support.
Selected candidates will come together for a weeklong induction to begin customising a plan for their personal learning and support. Mentorship and on ground or virtual coaching support in creating a strong ecosystem and access to resources will be provided, and need-based scholarship are available, says Katra. The entrepreneurs will meet four times a year to share their challenges and knowledge as well as provide mutual support.

To become a TFIx entrepreneur, visit http://www.teachforindia.org/initiatives and apply before October 17.
Applications to the 2017-19 Teach For India Fellowship programme are also now open. It is an opportunity for India’s brightest and most promising youth to serve as full-time teachers to children from low-income communities in some of the nation’s most under-resourced schools.
Fellows get exposed to the grassroot realities of India’s education system and begin to cultivate the knowledge, skills, and mindsets necessary to attain positions of leadership and identify their role in building a wider movement for educational equity in the country.
Applications have to be submitted before October 25. To apply, log on to http://apply.teachforindia.org.
