Nalbandian presents Azerbaijani April aggression against NKR at CSTO session

YEREVAN, OCTOBER 14, ARMENPRESS. The joint session of the CSTO member states’ FMs Council, Defense Ministers’ Council and Security Council Secretaries’ took place in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia on October 14. The session was chaired by Chairman of the CSTO FMs’ Council, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia Edward Nalbandian.

The joint session kicked off in a narrow format, followed by an expanded format with the participation of delegations.

In his opening remarks Minister Nalbandian particularly said: “Armenia has always been active and an initiator in terms of improving cooperation within the framework of the organization, deepening of cooperation between member states, development of coordinating mechanisms of foreign policy, boosting mutual cooperation in defense sector, increasing its role in the international arena. Within the framework of the organization’s chairmanship we continued consistent steps in the abovementioned directions”.

Minister Nalbandian briefed on the current situation which resulted in the aggression of Azerbaijan against Nagorno Karabakh, the agreements which were reached in the Vienna and St. Petersburg summit, highlighting that till now Baku refuses to initiate these agreements.

Edward Nalbandian spoke about the Syrian crisis and the necessity of immediate steps for stabilizing the situation, fight against international terrorism and the migration crisis.

The situation in Afghanistan was also discussed in the session, and the threat of the growing terrorism for the security of Central Asian countries.

The joint session also touched upon the works of the regulatory agencies of the organization, the boosting of cooperation in different international formats between CSTO member states was discussed, and the schedule of the 2016-2017 consultations on political, defense and security issues.

The joint Ministerial session endorsed the announcements which are to be presented later on October 14 during the Security Council – “Strategy of CSTO Collective Security until 2025”, The summarizing announcement of the Council session, announcement “On settlement of Nagorno Karabakh conflict”, the anti-missile defense announcement and others.

Overall, around three dozen documents were signed during the joint session.

At the end of the session, the Chairmanship was passed on to Belarus.
