Shruti Haasan to champion `girl power' on the social media

The actress features in a video which aims to redefine a cuss word
Shruti Haasan has become the latest B-Townie to champion `girl power' on the social media. The actress-musician features in a video that offers up a new definition of the term `bitch' which is now often used to label free-thinking, independent women who don't conform to societal norms.Titled 'Be the Bitch', by Culture Machine, it is an effort to de-stigmatise the word.
'I've never believed in following norms and the standard definition of things.I'm an `equalist' and felt the time has come to rede fine the connotation of the word. Historically, its meaning has been driven by power play between the one using it and the one who's subjected to it, almost making it seem abusive.But evolution, education and newer opportunities have changed what it means. Today, at least for me, it stands for an independent, strong woman's ability to be herself,' Shruti told Mirror.
The 30-year-old actress, who has also written the dialogues for the video, admitted that the idea instantly struck her as interesting. 'I wrote and fleshed it out based on my own interpretation of the word and everyone loved it. I'm glad it's turned out well,' Shruti signs off with a smile of satisfaction.
