BHOPAL: A 40-year-old tribal was mauled to death by a
Bandhavgarh tiger in
Umeria district on Wednesday. Forest officials have assured proper compensation to the deceased's family.
However, the incident has triggered a panic in the locality. Local residents claim more than 12 people have been killed by the tigers in the last two years. In 2014, a school teacher died after being attacked by a tiger in
Khitoli area of
Bandhavgarh National Park in
Katni district, leading to violent protests by villagers who went on a rampage, setting the forest range office and nine houses ablaze.
The mob had also attacked forest personnel, including local forest range officer, while keeping some of them hostage, besides policemen and local journalists.
