AHMEDABAD: Garbage dumps, broken railings, garbage flo broken railings, garbage flowing in open drainage lines, dogs loitering around and similar situations were all that the two members of Passenger Amenities Committee (PAC), who are on a two-day visit to the city, found as they inspected the Kalupur railway station.
“Sharm aani chahiye (You should be ashamed),“ was the statement of Ashok Tripathi a member of the PAC.
Not once, but he rebuked the officers on several occasions. Seeing huge advertisement of a private telecom player, Tripathi asked the officers if they were out to sell Ahmedabad Railway Station to private parties. “We cannot put our own advertisements, and here you have changed the name of Ahmedabad Railway Station by putting huge neon light signboards of telecom companies,“ he said.
The two PAC members, Tri pathi and Mohammad Irfan Ahmed, showed were highly annoyed by the sight of an open drain carrying garbage. Some parts of the drain were covered with iron grills, but some parts were open. Irfan asked officials to get it covered as soon as possible.
The committee was miffed by the non-availability of prepaid auto rickshaws and directed officials to immediately make arrangements for the same with the help of Railway Protection Force, local police and the traffic police.
At platform No. 12, the com mittee found building material debris lying unattended. The members called for the contractors and asked officials to levy a fine of Rs 5,000 for not clearing the debris.
