The Iparreko Ibarra Basque Club celebrated its 12th edition of its Annual Festival along with NABO Kantari Eguna

Last Saturday, October 8th, the Basque American community held a festival and cheerful event with the celebration of the Rocklin 12th annual Basque Festival, NABO Autumn meetig and gathering of singers and bertsolaris, NABO Kantari Eguna.  More than 300 friends gathered in Rocklin to enjoy a day of singing, music, Basque dance, Mus, rural sports and a dance to the music of Jean Flesher.  Following is a photo gallery of the event. 

Lincoln, CA, USA.  The Iparreko Ibarra Basque Club celebrated its 12th Annual Iparreko Ibarra Besta” with more than 300 people, including friends from other Basque clubs in the area. The program also included the Autumn meeting of NABO, with representatives of many Basque clubs from different cities and states.

The day began early, at 8am, with the first Mus Tournament games.  Twenty-two teams participated with the winners being Martin Asprioz and Pedro Miqueo, and second place going to Chris Bonson and Jean Michel Michelena.

Simultaneously the regular autumn meeting of the North American Basque Organizations, Inc., (NABO) was held with representatives of Basque clubs and associations in the country, presided over by Valerie Arrechea, President of the federation.

At noon, members enjoyed lunch followed by the Kantaldia, the singing festival presented by Martin Etchamendy.  Dantzaris also participated in the event with the Iparreko Ibarra Basque Dancers, 33 of them directed by Rose Marie Etchamendy Caballero, and the Zazpiak Bat Basque Dancers from San Francisco.  In addition Klika members from Chino, San Francisco, Los Banos, Fresno and Rocklin also gathered to provide some ambience and rhythm to the day.

The evening continued with a Txinga carrying competition and a dance to the music of Jean Flesher and Rene Caballero.

The Basque club thanks everyone for attending as well as everyone who made the day possible.  Next year’s event date has already been set for October 14, 2017.
