PANAJI: Leader of the National Alliance for People’s Movements, Medha Patkar, has attacked BRICS for falling in the trap of liberalization, globalization and a market- led agenda of global power centres.
At the opening plenary session, Patkar was addressing a large number of people representing various social movements, trade unions, academia and civil society formations from BRICS countries, assembled on Thursday at Xavier Centre of Historical Research, in Porvorim, to participate in the two-day People’s Forum on BRICS.

Patkar took note of various struggles of people across the country including Goa’s successful fight against special economic zones and illegal mining. She appealed to the people to build solidarity in their resistance against neo-liberalism and corporate globalization, which according to her, “hasn’t spared the BRICS summit either”.
Attacking the liberalization agenda, Patkar said, “their development bank is a destructive bank, because their development leads to disparity, destruction.
