Less than 50 per cent of the total paddy arrived in various grain markets of Fazilka district has been lifted so far.
Official sources said the arrival of 88,709 metric tonnes of paddy had been recorded in the district so far, out of which 77,215 metric tonnes had been procured by the government agencies. However, only 42,397 metric tonnes had been lifted by the agencies and private traders till yesterday.
Principal Secretary Anirudh Tiwari, who is incharge of Fazilka district, visited various grain markets today to check the procurement process. He directed the officials concerned to expedite the lifting and remove all hurdles being faced during lifting.
He appealed to the farmers to bring dry paddy for smooth procurement. He assured the farmers that the government would not allow anyone to cause inconvenience to them in the mandis.
